Recently, I had the opportunity to speak at the JUF-JF Board meeting in Chicago, discussing the importance of the current Israel vote; not the recent Israeli elections in Israel, but the most important Israel vote that we in the Diaspora can participate in, the World Zionist Congress (WZC) vote – happening now. Being president of the American Zionist Movement, (AZM) I understand how Zionism has different meanings and emotions depending on one’s relationship with Israel.  However, I cannot stress enough, as Jewish Americans, regardless of our definition, it is our right and opportunity to vote on behalf of Israel.  The more votes America has, the stronger our voice can be heard for Israel and for Zionism. Putting A Personal Face On Israel

Israel has been in existence as an independent nation-state for over sixty years, and that has been a dream of the Jewish people for generations. The connection between the Jewish people and the land of Israel is multifaceted, with bonds including religion, historical connection, and source of national inspiration and identity. Yet, in the 21st century, young Jews in the Diaspora, who have never known a world without the State of Israel, are not educated about the history or current events surrounding the Jewish State, and often do not feel a personal connection to the land that their ancestors identified with so strongly.
